Sources
HomeBillLab prioritises primary and official Australian sources for energy prices, efficiency information, market data, rebates and product inputs.
Source hierarchy
- Australian Government and statutory regulators for rules, programs, consumer information and regulated market material.
- Official energy market bodies for market-system data and publications.
- State and territory government sources for local rebates, concessions and schemes.
- Manufacturer technical documentation for product-specific rated power, capacity or consumption.
- High-quality secondary sources only when a primary source is not practical, with important claims checked against the strongest available evidence.
Core Australian sources
energy.gov.au
Australian Government household energy guidance, energy-saving information, rebates and assistance directory, and practical explanations of energy use and running costs.
Australian Energy Regulator (AER)
Consumer energy information, retail-market reporting, regulated network information and Default Market Offer material for the jurisdictions the AER covers.
Energy Made Easy
Australian Government energy price comparison service for households and small businesses in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. We do not treat its coverage as Australia-wide.
Energy Rating
Official Equipment Energy Efficiency information, Energy Rating Labels and consumer information for regulated household appliances and equipment.
Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
Market and system information for electricity and gas systems managed by AEMO, including National Electricity Market data and publications.
Clean Energy Regulator
Official information about Australian renewable-energy schemes, including the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and related eligibility information.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)
Official national statistics used when household or economy-wide energy data is relevant to a guide. Statistical reference periods are kept distinct from the page publication date.
Time-sensitive information
Electricity prices, retailer plans, rebates, concessions and government programs can change. When HomeBillLab publishes a time-sensitive number, we aim to show its jurisdiction, source and relevant date. Older pages should not silently present an expired scheme or historical tariff as current.
Product specifications
For a specific appliance or system, the manufacturer’s current technical documentation can be the best primary source for rated input power, capacity or declared energy consumption. We distinguish those specifications from real-world household consumption, which can vary with conditions and use.
