About HomeBillLab

HomeBillLab is an independent information and calculation website built to make Australian household energy costs easier to understand.

Home energy information often arrives in different units and different places: watts on a product label, kilowatt-hours on an energy rating, cents per kWh on a bill, annual estimates on a plan, and changing government programs. HomeBillLab brings those inputs into practical calculators and plain-language guides.

What we publish

  • household energy and appliance running-cost calculators;
  • guides explaining the inputs behind those calculations;
  • information about air conditioning, hot water, appliances, heating, electricity, solar, batteries and insulation;
  • dated summaries of rebates and assistance where reliable official information is available.

What we are not

HomeBillLab is not an Australian Government website, energy retailer, electricity distributor, product manufacturer, installer, financial adviser or engineering consultancy. Our calculators provide estimates for information and comparison. They do not replace a current energy bill, retailer quote, product specification, professional assessment or official eligibility decision.

Why transparency matters

A calculator is only as useful as its inputs. We therefore aim to identify the formula, unit conversions, assumptions and source behind important defaults. When a number changes by location or over time, our goal is to avoid presenting it as a permanent Australia-wide fact.
