About

HomeBillLab is an independent information and calculation website built to make household energy costs easier to understand across supported countries.

Home energy information often arrives in different units and different places: watts on a product label, kilowatt-hours on an energy label, cents or dollars per kWh on a bill, fuel prices, annual estimates, efficiency ratings and changing government programs. HomeBillLab brings those inputs into practical calculators and plain-language guides while keeping country-specific differences visible.

What we publish

  • household energy and appliance running-cost calculators;
  • guides explaining the inputs and assumptions behind those calculations;
  • country-specific information about air conditioning, hot water, appliances, heating and electricity;
  • additional market-specific topics, such as solar, batteries, insulation or rebates, where the local section supports them;
  • dated summaries of prices, programs or benchmarks when reliable official information is available.

How country sections work

HomeBillLab currently has dedicated sections for Australia and the United States. Each market uses its own terminology, official sources and relevant calculator inputs. We do not assume that one national or global rate is suitable for every household.

What we are not

HomeBillLab is not a government website, energy retailer, electricity or gas distributor, product manufacturer, installer, financial adviser or engineering consultancy. Our calculators provide estimates for information and comparison. They do not replace a current bill, retailer quote, product specification, professional assessment or official eligibility decision.

Why transparency matters

A calculator is only as useful as its inputs. We aim to identify the formula, unit conversions, assumptions and source behind important defaults. When a number changes by location or over time, our goal is to label the market, jurisdiction and review date instead of presenting it as a permanent universal fact.
